What Are Biomaterials?

Biomaterials are organic polymers made from natural resources and organic waste such as flowers, coffee, crop residues, and fruit or eggshells.

These materials easily decompose in home composting systems, safely and quickly returning nutrients to the natural cycle.

They are a sustainable alternative that helps create a greener future.

About me

Hello, I’m Laura Messing, architect, visual artist, and researcher in biomaterials.

In recent years, I have specialized in research, development, and education in biomaterials, collaborating with different brands on the creation of sustainable products.

I began working with biomaterials in 2018, seeking sustainable materials to continue making art. Along the way, I discovered a world of possibilities for replacing pollutants such as plastics, tanned leathers, ceramics, cement, and more.

From that moment on, I understood that sharing this knowledge so that designers, artists, and architects can transform their productions carries for me a deep sense of service to the community — in harmony with the environmental emergency we are currently facing.
